“A surfer’s paradise!” one says when asked about Rote Island, a home to a range of world class surfing spots. From the massive swells to the laidback crowd you meet at this, surfing at Rote Island will be an experience you’ll never forget. In Rote island you will find a world-class set of waves to enjoy with family and friends. Away from crowds found in other Indonesian islands, it offers the consistence and quality that makes the indonesian archipelago one of the best surfing spots in the world.

Rote receives from March to November consistent South-Southwest swell, coming from South africa towards the South of Australia, during the dry season (winter in the Southern Hemisphere), that is when the Indian Ocean turns into a Factory of waves and dreams. During this season, the winds are off-shore, East-Southeast trade winds. And unlike in other islands in the indonesian archipelago, you will not find jealous locals protecting their waves from visitors. The local population is very friendly and affable, with only a few surfers in the water.
Rote Island is a part of Kupang Regency and is the southernmost island of Indonesia. It is located in the west coast of Kupang. This exotic island can be reached only in four hours. From Kupang by inter-island ferry to dive and tour this untouched beautifully rugged land. Spectacular walls and caverns mirror the hills, valleys, and escarpments underwater. The marine life is so varied and profuse that is hard to believe from Fire-fish to Mantas. The architecture of Rote is unique, as is their exquisite ikat weaving. See the people is their traditional lifestyle, which has remained unchanged for centuries.
The beach itself is one of the best examples of a palm fringed pure white sandy beach to be found anywhere. Diving in the area is also exceptional due to the large numbers of Manta and Dugong seen there. A boat trip to nearby Dana or Ndao Islands is also recommended.
On Rote Island, there are many things you can do like fishing, swimming, surfing, and many more. Surfing takes precedence but fishing is a close second with the ocean around the beach teeming with numerous species of fish. The most common species of fish you can find in the ocean include Dog Tooth Tuna, Spanish Mackerel, Yellowfin Tuna, Trevalli, Wahoo, Sailfish, Sea Perch, Grouper and Marlin.

Another exciting activity is snorkeling. You can enjoy beautiful underwater life in this beach, including colorful live corals, larger pelagics and small reef fish as well as beautiful sea shells still alive with their occupants and an occasional octopus. Other activities include surfing, village trip and island hopping. Island hopping means you can visit other islands nearby such as Donna, Do’o and N’Doa.
